Mya Stafford, MA
Psychology Intern

Clinical Psychology Doctoral Student at William James College

Mya Stafford, MA is a current third-year Clinical Psychology PsyD student at William James College. She also earned her Master of Art (MA) in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, with a concentration in African and Caribbean Mental Health. Previously, she graduated from Clark University in 2022 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Sociology. While attending Clark University, she served as a research assistant on multiple projects and therapeutic mentor for adolescent girls. Her emphasis on supporting youth from under-resourced and diverse backgrounds has been consistently impressive.

Training Background
Mya has an extensive background in working with children, adolescents, and adults in various settings including schools, residential programs, outpatient programs, and community support programs. Mya specializes in treating patients with acute psychiatric presentations including trauma, anxiety, mood and neurodevelopmental disorders. She has refined her skills at various Massachusetts agencies such as Walker Therapeutic & Educational Programs and The Home for Little Wanderers.
While at Walker Therapeutic & Educational Programs, Mya worked as a Residential Education Practicum Student, conducting projective assessments for students aged 6 to 13 years old, facilitating individual, group and milieu therapy sessions with culturally diverse children in residential and therapeutic day school settings. During her internship with Walker, she provided in-home therapy, including intensive family therapy and coordination of the youth’s other providers.
During her time at The Home for Little Wanderers, Mya served as the Residential Counselor, supervising and coordinating activities of daily living, teaching age-appropriate life and social skills, and providing group and individual behavior support and intervention.

Clinical Experience

Mya Stafford’s clinical background has provided her extensive experience in working with child, adolescent, and adult clients who struggle with trauma, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, neurodevelopmental disorders, and a range of externalizing behaviors. Her ability to work with clients who experience acute symptoms has allowed her to assess and treat patients while collaborating with clients’ support systems. Her prior experience in individual, group, school, residential, and family modalities allows her to holistically address her clients’ presenting issues. For these reasons and many more, Mya is a valuable team member in her work with a wide range of fellow clinicians at CCS and within the greater Boston mental health community.
