Ian Ljutich, MSW, PsyD
Post-Doctoral Fellow in Psychology

Ian Ljutich is a Post-Doctoral Fellow at Copernican Clinical Services. His training at CCS has emphasized working with patients utilizing a Multi-Modality Treatment (MMT) approach to therapy that coordinates individual, family and group psychotherapy sessions with a holistic approach to each patient’s specific learning profile. Dr. Ljutich also received a Master of Arts (MA) in Professional Psychology from William James College and a Master of Social Work (MSW) from Boston University, with a concentration in advanced group psychotherapy.

Training Background
Dr. Ljutich completed his APA-accredited pre-doctoral internship at Wellesley College’s Stone Center Counseling Service. While at the Stone Center, Dr. Ljutich provided individual and group psychotherapy to a large and diverse group of college-aged students with a focus on the LGBTQ+ population. Prior to his APA-accredited internship, Dr. Ljutich completed internship training placements at the Walker Therapeutic and Educational Programs, Emmanuel College’s Counseling Center, the Solomon Schechter Day School, and Fenway Health.

Clinical Experience
Dr. Ljutich’s therapeutic style focuses on an integration of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Relational-Cultural Therapy (RCT) techniques. CBT is an evidence-based psychotherapy which focuses on how thoughts, feelings, and behaviors contribute to (and ultimately can help change) an individual’s experience of problems including anxiety, depression, self-esteem, and other lifestyle choices. RCT is a school of psychotherapy which focuses on the healing power of relationships and human connection as well as how disconnections may arise and impact relational health. The RCT framework was developed at Wellesley College’s Stone Center throughout the 1970s and Dr. Ljutich was trained in this technique over his two training years by Dr. Judith Jordan, one of RCT’s key theorists and founders.

Dr. Ljutich’s clinical interests include LGBTQ+ issues, relationship concerns, and the treatment of anxiety. He treats patients who are middle school, high school, and college students, as well as young adults/adults. He enjoys working with patients in group therapy formats as well, currently co-leading an adolescent teen therapy group with patients who struggle with anger and social skill challenges. He also co-leads a young-adult therapy group that emotionally supports post-college transitioning to a career track and the attainment of financial independence within a supportive, connected social context.
