Shanel Turransky, MA
Psychology Intern

Clinical Psychology Doctoral Student at William James College

Shanel Turransky, MA is a current fourth-year Clinical Psychology PsyD student at William James College. She also earned her Master of Art (MA) in professional psychology at William James College in 2023. Previously, she graduated from Boston College in 2021 with a Bachelor of Science (BS) in psychology with a concentration in Clinical Psychology. While attending Boston College she served as a Research Assistant in both the Emotion Development Lab and Cognitive & Affective Neuroscience Lab. In her work at McLean Hospital’s Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Institute (OCDI), a Harvard Medical School affiliated program, she supported patients with complex OCD clinical presentations.

Training Background
Shanel has an extensive background in working with children, adolescents, and adults in various settings including schools, intensive outpatient programs, hospitals, and community support programs. Shanel specializes in treating patients with acute psychiatric presentations including OCD, depression, anxiety, and co-occurring disorders, and patients requiring crisis intervention. She has refined her skills at various Massachusetts agencies such as New Harbor Behavioral Healthcare, Community Healthlink, McLean Hospital’s OCD Institute, and the James Fitzgerald Elementary School in Waltham, MA.
While at New Harbor Behavioral Healthcare in Dedham MA, Shanel worked as a group facilitator, conducting group sessions with adolescents experiencing mental health issues and co-occurring disorders in an intensive outpatient level of care. During her internship at Community Healthlink in Worcester MA, Shanel provided individual treatment to patients, conducting diagnostic evaluations, and completing crisis assessments and interventions. Additionally, she gained skills in coordinating with patient’s treatment teams including primary care professionals, social services agencies, and hospital networks to facilitate holistic care.
While at James Fitzgerald Elementary School, Shanel worked as a School Adjustment Counselor Intern where she led social emotional development curriculum at classroom, small group, and individual levels as well as leading social developmental history interviews with parents of students undergoing testing.

Clinical Experience
Shanel Turransky’s clinical background has provided her extensive experience in working with child, adolescent, and adult clients who struggle with anxiety, depression, OCD, co-occurring disorders, and a range of externalizing behaviors. Her ability to work with clients who experience acute symptoms has allowed her to assess and treat patients while collaborating with clients’ support systems. Her prior experience in individual, group, school, and family modalities allows her to holistically address her clients’ presenting issues. For these reasons and many more, Shanel is a valuable team member in her work with a diverse mix of fellow clinicians at CCS and within the greater Boston mental health community.
