Kristen Burke, MA
Psychology Intern
​Clinical Psychology Doctoral Student at William James College

Kristen Burke is a current fourth-year Clinical Psychology PsyD student at William James College with a master’s degree in Professional Psychology. Previously, she graduated from Boston University in 2019 with a dual degree in neuroscience and psychology. She has experience working with children, adolescents, transition-age youth, and adults in a variety of settings including therapeutic schools, a group home, and adolescent and dual diagnosis acute inpatient units.

Training Background
​Kristen has experience with biopsychosocial and other assessment interviews, clinical check ins and risk assessment, treatment planning, case management, and group therapy. She emphasizes the therapeutic relationship and rapport building in order to determine the best procedure for treatment planning for her patients and uses a variety of approaches to meet the clients where they are at. She sees a range of clients, including patients with LGBTQ+ issues, couples, including  clients/couples who are dealing with sexual health issues. 

Clinical Experience
Kristen worked as a residential counselor at the Ivy Street School for one year. She worked with teenage and transition-age youth on activities of daily living, social skills, community navigation skills, treatment planning, and conflict resolution skills. She gained experience in writing progress notes and incident reports. 

Kristen worked as a clinical intern at the Central Massachusetts Collaborative for one year. She worked with children aged 5-11 on emotional regulation, social skills, and classroom skills. She ran social-emotional learning groups in addition to conducting individual check ins, as well as  supporting students in IEP meetings.

Kristen worked as a case management intern at Southcoast Behavioral Health for one year. She spent half the year working on the adolescent unit and half the year on the dual diagnosis (substance use and psychiatric illness) unit. Kristen conducted psychosocial intake assessments for patients, assessed for risk of suicidality and homicidality as well as for signs of psychosis, and completed discharge procedures. She also conducted groups on impulse control, self-esteem, healthy boundaries, stress management, and more.
